Dr Ng is an Associate Professor in Cardiothoracic Surgery at Prince of Wales Hospital, The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

He graduated with BSc from Imperial College, London in 1998 with 1st Class Honours and Dudley Prize (1st in his class), and went on to obtain his MBBS with Honours, Distinction in Surgery and Anthony de Rothschild Medal (1st in his class in surgery) in 1999. He returned to Hong Kong to join his current department.

In 2006, he undertook further training as Specialist Registrar and Honorary Research Fellow at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, University of Birmingham and Royal Centre for Defence Medicine UK. In the following year, he was awarded FRCSEd(CTh), and subsequently Doctorate of Medicine (MD(Res)) from Imperial College in recognition of his research on ventilator induced and ischemia reperfusion lung injury. He is also a Fellow of American College of Chest Physicians (FCCP).

Dr Ng is a pioneer in Single Port (Uniportal) VATS in the Asia-Pacific region with numerous publications in JTCVS, CHEST and Thorax, amongst other journals. He is the Founder of the Asian Single Port VATS Symposium series. Also, he has been an invited speaker on this subject in KATSO, ATSC, GCTAB, PATCVS, ATEP, ASCVTS and the Asian Duke Masters of Minimally Invasive Thoracic Surgery meetings.

His academic contributions include 7 book chapters (including Pearson’s Thoracic & Esophageal Surgery 3rd Ed) and more than 100 publications in indexed international journals. He is a regular reviewer for Annals of Surgery, Annals of Thoracic Surgery, EJCTS and ICVTS. His main research and interests are: innovative technologies in VATS, single port (Uniportal) VATS, chest wall surgery and reconstruction, immune dysfunction following conventional and VATS lung surgery, CPB and lung ischemia reperfusion injury, and surgical training.
