Biography

Dr. Xianfeng Xia is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at Faculty of Medicine, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). He obtained his PhD from the Department of Surgery, CUHK in 2017 and completed a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship (2017-2019) at the Chow Yuk Ho Technology Center for Innovative Medicine, CUHK. Before joining CUHK as a faculty, Dr. Xia was the Associate Chief Physician and Research Assistant Professor at Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center.

Dr. Xia's research focuses on unraveling the mechanisms underlying gastrointestinal (GI) mucosal injury and its associated complications caused by various factors, including autoimmune disorders, drugs, chemoradiotherapy, and endoscopic resection, while developing innovative treatments using advanced biomaterials and regenerative medicine. His work has been published in leading journals such as Science Translational Medicine, Science Advances, Nature Communications, and Advanced Functional Materials. Recently, his team has expanded research on immunotherapy resistance in GI cancers and developing bioinspired nanomedicines to address these challenges. Dr. Xia has secured competitive external grants as PI from the Natural Science Foundation of China and the Guangdong Basic and Applied Basic Research Foundation. He is currently the young editorial member for the journal Extracellular Vesicle and serves as the member of the Committee of Endoscopology, Guangdong Provincial Anticancer Association.
