He graduated from medical school with honors at the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2008, also as the recipient of the R.C. Li Gold Medallist in Surgery. He received general surgical training in Hong Kong, obtaining fellowship in the College of Surgeons of Hong Kong and Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2015. Dr Yip underwent further overseas training focusing on upper gastrointestinal surgery and endoscopy at Keio University, Tokyo and Osaka International Cancer Institute, Osaka, Japan. He has primary interests in upper gastrointestinal cancers, including endoscopic detection and diagnosis, endoscopic resection as well as minimally invasive surgical options for these cancers. He is leading a multi-centre international randomized controlled trial on endoscopic submucosal dissection of early gastric cancer. He is also involved in consensus statement on endoscopic management of early esophageal squamous cell carcinoma by the World Endoscopy Organization. He serves as a reviewer for numerous journals including Gastric Cancer, Endoscopy, Digestive Endoscopy, GIE, Annals of Surgical Oncology.

Since 2018, Dr Yip joined as a Faculty of the Asia Novel Bio-imaging and Intervention Group (ANBIIG) and has since been actively participating in Education on endoscopy skills in the Asia-Pacific Region. He is currently leading in the e-Learning sub-committee of ANBIIG. He has also been invited as the committee member of training in Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy in the Asia-Pacific Society of Digestive Endoscopy (APSDE). Dr Yip has been invited to perform live demonstrations and lectures on specialized upper gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures at various local and international conferences and workshops. It is Dr Yip’s career goal to promote early cancer diagnosis and treatment especially locally in Hong Kong, in order to improve quality of life in these patients.
