Song Wan is currently Professor and Honorary Advisor in Cardiothoracic Surgery, Prince of Wales Hospital, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, China. He is a Fellow of American College of Cardiology and Royal College of Surgeons of England. Over the past decades his clinical and research interests have been focused on adult cardiac surgical issues, such as reconstructive valve surgery. To date, he has published more than 200 peer reviewed articles and 18 book chapters.

Professor Wan is a Councillor of Asian Society for Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery (ASCVTS). He is member of 12 learned professional bodies, such as American Association for Thoracic Surgery (AATS) and Society of Thoracic Surgeons. He has been awarded Visiting Professorship at 10 leading medical schools. He was previously elected to be Deputy Director, Committee on Valvular Surgery of the Chinese Society of Cardiovascular Surgeons (2009–2015); Deputy Director, Committee on Coronary Surgery of the Chinese Society of Cardiovascular Surgeons (2011–2015); and Director, Committee on International Collaborations of the Chinese Society of Cardiovascular Surgeons (2009–2015). He was also appointed as Chairman, Education Committee of ASCVTS (2020–2022).

Professor Wan is an Assistant Editor of Heart Surgery Forum and an editorial board member of 14 international referred journals including Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery and Asian Cardiovascular and Thoracic Annals. Currently, he also serves as a member of the AATS Membership Committee and AATS Foundation Asian Scholarship Committee.
