INTRODUCTION

The Division of Paediatric Surgery & Paediatric Urology (the Division) in Prince of Wales Hospital (PWH) is staffed by the Hong Kong Children's Hospital (HKCH). The Division, currently headed by Dr. Tam Yuk-him, provides comprehensive elective and emergency services in PWH. The Division also has out-patient specialist clinics in Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) and Tuen Mun Hospital (TMH). Staff of the Division perform duties in PWH, HKCH, PMH and TMH. The Division provides higher surgical training in paediatric surgery accredited by the College of Surgeons of Hong Kong and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

ACHIEVEMENTS

  • The first paediatric surgical centre in Hong Kong to adopt robotic technology in the standard practice of performing pyeloplasty for pelvi-ureteric junction obstruction in infants and children.
  • The first paediatric surgical centre in Hong Kong to introduce enhanced recovery pathway for hypospadias repair in children.
  • Pioneered in development of various minimally invasive surgical techniques in children such as laparoscopic excision of choledochal cyst and single incision laparoscopic surgery.
  • The first paediatric surgical centre in Hong Kong to conduct large-scale epidemiological studies on Helicobacter pylori infection, functional constipation and lower urinary tract symptoms in our paediatric population, and report the findings in high-impact journals.
